Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the design and technical support of the electrical motor controls included in EF&T Division’s products and solutions. The primary goal is to offer innovative, cost competitive and reliable systems suitable for installation in the North American Marketplace. The scope of duty includes the participation in the development of new control solutions, customization of a standard design for an end user’s requirements, and ongoing improvement of the standard program. On projects with custom solutions, this person will take an active role from the proposal stage to final implementation, including technical approach, supplier selection and management, quality review of deliverables, and technical support for sales staff training and support. 

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  1. Configure and customize existing control systems to meet specific end-user requirements. (Estimated Time Allocation: 30%)
  • On new opportunities, advise the sales team on the best technical approach and cost of customization.
  • Perform calculations and consult with Solution Engineers and Project Managers to further develop a solution to meet the contract requirements. Ensure final design complies with local and national electrical codes.
  • For pre-configured solutions, provide guidance to Control Engineers in the preparation of electrical schematics and diagrams for customer approval. 
  • On more advanced solutions, act as technical lead in the development of design concept and preparation of project-specific documentation to meet project requirements.
  • Recommend suppliers based on their ability to meet the budget, functional, and schedule requirements.
  • Manage the production and testing process of the control system.  
  1. Provide timely technical support to end-users and technical staff on new and legacy control systems. (Estimated Time Allocation: 20%)
  • Work with field technicians and end-user staff to troubleshoot and address control issues via phone.   
  • Advise Sales and Technical Staff on compliance of standard controls to local and national standards and codes.
  • Travel to the end-user’s site to commission or troubleshoot advanced systems. 
  1. Execute engineering projects to create or improve electrical control designs to enhance competitive position and meet safety and regulatory requirements. (Estimated Time Allocation: 30%
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Marketing, and Sales management to convert functional and cost requirements into engineering concepts and specifications. Prioritize project work based on feedback from Local and Global Management. Engage in design/build requirements and orchestrate the resources to bring projects to completion.
  • Conform designs to meet agreed-upon Nederman Global Standards. 
  • Take lead role in coordinating and setting agenda for Controls Engineering Team meetings.
  • Develop and manage suppliers to meet design objectives. 
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and contractors.
  • Create a process to evaluate supplier bids and negotiate the best price for required products and services. 
  • Implement quality and performance standards for suppliers and contractors.
  • Partner with key suppliers for future business.

  1. Manage standard designs to be current with production specifications. (Estimated Time Allocation: 20%)
  • Liaise with Global Automation Center Team to stay current on global standards. 
  • Review and update standard documentation to reflect current production models. 
  • Improve clarity of datasheets and operation and maintenance manuals.  
  • Provide support to production management on compliance and technical issues. 
  • Ensure products and systems meet relevant codes and standards.

 

Qualifications

Your skills and traits:

  • Team oriented personality
  • Willingness to learn new technology and accept personal responsibility for own development and performance.
  • Expert knowledge of electrical motor controls and PLC Technology with experience with Siemens Brand a plus.
  • General knowledge of PLC programming and application of Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, and AutoCAD Software.
  • Strong communication skills required with the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, contractors, and other consultants.
  • Must be able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Provide leadership to project team and train \ mentor technical staff.  

 

Your Experience & Education:

  • Ten years of proven electrical motor control design experience and competence. 
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent Education and Experience
